ASCE is hosting a blood drive THIS Thursday, February 25th at the Ackerman Blood and Platelet Center! Each blood donation takes approximately 60 minutes and the blood goes directly to UCLA hospital patients. Each donation can save up to 2 lives. Donor must bring an I.D., and should eat a meal & drink extra fluids prior to donation. Medical questions or travel questions should be directed to (310) 825-0888 x2 or at the Ackerman Donor Center. Incentives for donating include: One movie ticket or a $5 meal coupon to UCLA restaurants or 4 hours of compensation time for UCLA employees.

Over 200 high school students will be competition to build the strongest Popsicle stick bridges. It's a fun community service event and a great chance to interact with industry, be a role model to younger students, and meet ASCE members from other local colleges. 2) Mentorship Bowling Night

Mentorship Bowling is now moved to SUNDAY- 1/24/2010 from 4-6 PM. Come

out because its going to be a BLAST!! It's going to be at Mar Vista

Lanes and its going to be ONLY $11 dollars for 2 hours of bowling AND

shoe rental. Also during this time they have EXTREME bowling which

includes awesome music and lights! Everyone will be bowling in their

respective mentorship families and its going to be a fun competition

4) Concrete Canoe

The concrete has been laid for the final canoe, but it's not too late to get involved. We'll be resuming regular workdays starting Wednesday, January 27.

1) Parson Info Session

When: Thursday, January 14 @ 6 PM

This is an extremely important info session. A Parsons representative will be speaking on how to talk to companies at the career fair. The ASCE Career fair is coming up soon on January 28 and knowing how to talk to companies is invaluable. Come to the info session to find out how you can make a good first impression and stick out from the crowd.

Parsons is a large scale design-build firm with projects on both the local level, such as the Port of LA, to the international level. Currently, the Port of LA together with the Port of Long Beach make up the largest active port complex in the United States! Other markets Parsons is involved in include: Aviation, earthwork, environmental, medical, transportation, and water.

This is the most important day of the project. We will be casting the final concrete canoe to compete at PSWRC in Las Vegas. We need lots of help so please join us anytime after 9 am. Oneil All Project BBQ

Want to broaden your classroom knowledge? Interested in working on one of ASCE's many projects? Come out to Sunset Recreation's Lower Patio near the amphitheater for our Project Kickoff BBQ this Wednesday, October 14, at 5:00pm. Every project will be showcasing what they work on throughout the year. This is the easiest way to learn about Concrete Canoe, Steel Bridge, Seismic Design, Surveying, Environmental Design, Concrete Sports, and Geotechnical Design all at the same time! 1. Unfortunately we will not be able to arrange rides for anyone, but if you don't have transportation, UCLA's rooter bus is always an option! Tickets can be purchased at CTO, and I believe they're $6.

2.If you have a car and are going to drive to the Rose Bowl, one of our cars is going to be leaving from Ackerman turnaround at 7:30am sharp. You can meet us there and follow our car there.

Afterward will be an opportunity to sign up for the field trip.
We are having a joint field trip with Cal ITE chapter to tour 3 transportation agencies in Orange County. First will be Parsons Brickerhoff, next will be the OCTA, and finally will be the City of Santa Ana Transportation Division. This is a reminder to register for a FREE Practice Test courtesy of Kaplan scheduled for Sunday, October 18^th at 12pm in Haines. This is your opportunity to take a full length exam of your choice and assess how much help you may need in prepping for the real thing. By attending the Practice Test you will be helping ASCE earn an extra scholarship for a Kaplan Course. You just need to block off a few hours of your time and show up.
